BOYS WITH TOYS...

The Spy Guide FLotus

The adrenaline pumping adventure show BWT ran with Motors TV for three seasons between 2013 and 2015. A fourth season starting production in 2016 but was dropped by Motors, along with a large number of other shows when the broadcaster was bought by US media giant Motorsport Network. Television transmissions ended a year later, with all racing coverage moving on-line.

BWT was a very popular strand that pushed the boundaries to find the ultimate experience days and best big boys toys.

The series was developed from a one-off feature in ‘The Fast Lane’ that aired in 2010. The item saw Tim team up with his son JJ (Joseph James – then 8) for the first time.

The feature ‘supercars for kids’ helped to make the episode of TFL it appeared in one of the highest rated shows on the platform at the time. The YouTube upload was subsequently played almost two million times.

Two years later BWT was developed into a stand-alone show that saw the pair set out to prove that no experience was too extreme and no toy was beyond reach.

Cars On Mars

Show highlights for the incomplete 2017 series included the ultimate European Dune Buggy experience and the flying school that can teach anyone to fly aerobatics unaided in less than 30 minutes.

During the aerobatics shoot JJ managed to get Tim strapped to the wing of a 1948 Bi-plane to learn how to ‘Wingwalk’. The death defying stunt was arranged with Essex based ‘Aerobatic Tactics’ and caught Tim completely off guard.

Arriving at Damyns Hall Aerodrome he was a little surprised to discover that he would be up there as JJ’s ‘Wing Man’… Literally.

Aerobatic Tactics is the modern day equivalent of the Barnstorming Pioneers who would have travelled the country in the 20’s and 30’s bringing aviation thrills to audiences of all ages. Their display pilots and instructors have a real passion for what they do and the company is one of only a few places in the world where you can try these stunts yourself.

BWT has always been one of Tim’s favourite shows and he’s often said that he would like to see the strand re-launched with another broadcaster once JJ has finished his education.

When asked about it in a recent interview he said:

“I think Boys With Toys was a fantastic show that people really enjoyed watching. It was a show that you could really relate to because we found ways of making dreams a reality. From supercar hire to flying in a Red Arrows display with the Blades, we showed viewers how to experience the incredible without having to be a billionaire. And I think we’d just got started, I’d like to see Boys With Toys back on air someday, possibly with my daughter joining the team. This is the 21st Century after all, perhaps it’s time we were Boys and Girls With Toys.”
