WE ARE THE BOYS, WITH A HELL OF A LOT OF TOYS - Tim talks about life on location with his son.
Back in the day, when we were producing a comedy car show called ‘The Fast Lane’, a slot opened up for a junior presenter and we took it literally.
We chose my son JJ to be our junior presenter for a one-off episode called ‘Supercars For kids’, he was just 8 at the time and he loved it.
Three years later ‘Boys With Toys’ was born and JJ joined me as a co-presenter for his first real TV show. He was rapidly picked up by US based Recordsetter and became known as ‘The World’s Youngest Motoring Presenter’.
And the rest, as they say, is history…
We’ve done three versions of BWT together now and we’re back in production with a brand new season of insanity for 2017.
It’s probably the best job in the world, travelling around exotic locations with your best friend and playing with kit worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, but it’s not without its problems.
Frequently there are times where I ask myself one question; “do I really want to let my son do this?”
It’s not always easy to step back and let him get on with his challenges, but he’s never attempted anything without being completely comfortable. Even then I have to check every stunt myself before I let him anywhere near it, so I am a bit of a control freak at times I have to admit.
Of course he does tell me to stop being such a girl when I get over protective these days… And this year has seen something new, it’s now JJ that’s trying to kill me off by signing me up for ridiculous stunts.
Oh how the tables have turned!
